چکیده

We discuss the quantum phase transition which separates a vacuum state with fully-gapped fermion spectrum from a vacuum state with topologically-protected Fermi points (gap nodes). In the context of condensed-matter physics, such a quantum phase transition with Fermi point splitting may occur for a system of ultra-cold fermionic atoms in the region of the BCS–BEC crossover, provided the Cooper pairing occurs in the non-s-wave channel. For elementary particle physics, the splitting of Fermi points may lead to CPT violation, neutrino oscillations, and

Emergent CPT violation from the splitting of Fermi points

In a fermionic quantum vacuum, the parameters kμ of a CPT-violating Chern–Simons-like action term induced by CPT-violating parameters bμ of the fermionic sector depend on the universality class of the system. As a concrete example, consider the Dirac Hamiltonian of a fermionic quasiparticle with effective rest energy M and add a term with purely-spacelike CPTviolating parameters bμ = (0,b). Dep...

Finite Temperature Effects in Ultracold Fermi Gases

The study of ultracold trapped fermionic gases is a rapidly exploding subject [1-10] which is defining new directions in condensed matter and atomic physics. It has also captured the attention of physicists who study color superconducting quark matter as well as nuclear matter [11-13]. Indeed, it is hard, in recent times, to find a subfield of physics which appeals this broadly to the research ...

Giant superconducting fluctuations in the compensated semimetal FeSe at the BCS–BEC crossover

The physics of the crossover between weak-coupling Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) and strong-coupling Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) limits gives a unified framework of quantum-bound (superfluid) states of interacting fermions. This crossover has been studied in the ultracold atomic systems, but is extremely difficult to be realized for electrons in solids. Recently, the superconducting semime...

1 6 O ct 2 00 9 Bose - Einstein Condensation of 84 Sr

The study of quantum degenerate gases continues to be at the forefront of research in atomic and condensed matter physics nearly 15 years after the first observation of Bose-Einstein condensation [1, 2, 3]. Current areas of focus include the behavior of quantum fluids in optical lattices [4], effects of dimensionality [5] and disorder [6, 7], exploration of the BEC-BCS crossover regime [8], and...
